I agree that Ford does build some very high quality cars, as does GM. Ford has also had its share of defective vehicles and lawsuits , the Pinto is a case in point.
Ford was for the auto bailout before they were against it. They lobbied for the "cash for clunkers " subsidies. They also received received $6B in government loans and applied for and received a $9B line of credit from the government
In my opinion Ford was in worse shape than GM and Ford's financial position necessitated they borrow $23B from the banks just before the financial crash and Ford borrowed while the banks were still "open".
Rest assured GM would have preferred to borrow from the banking system versus the United States government.
This is my personal perspective, it is shared by many others in the industry and I mean no disrespect to Ford, its employees and its cars.
