The answer to your question is a big fat NO!

There is no rational reason to have gates and guards period.
Of course, there are those who will give you reasons, many of which are lame.
The streets are public which means that anyone can come and go and cannot be stopped.

We still have break-ins and burglaries.

It costs us over a million dollrs a year to have guards there, pay for repairs, utilities, etc.
