My husband and I were discussing this and came to the conclusion that it is due to the high traffic volume this Easter holiday. I had noticed many of the gate arms were missing on either the visitors' or residents' lanes and the remaining gate was left up. Maybe they have not completed the repairs at these gates and decided it was best to leave it in the upright position instead of trying to work around the large number of vehicles. Also, my husband said, maybe they were keeping them raised trying to beat the odds of having a gate hit with the large number of vehicles during the last week of high volume season in TV.

I don't know the answer, but I certainly noticed it too. It makes it very dangerous for golf carts. In the afternoons and mornings some of the gate attendants leave the gates raised and it is very, very dangerous in a cart trying to get across two lanes of high speed traffic. It is terrifying to be sitting there in a golf cart and some dear soul in a car decides to be kind and stop to let you across. What they don't realize is that not only are they in danger of being rear ended, but there are two lanes of traffic and the wise cart driver shouldn't cross and risk being hit by the other vehicles coming through.

Go slowly, drive defensively and look three times.
