Making the round a bouts one lane would mean that all the traffic would have to merge before getting to the round a bout. Does anyone really think that would result in less accidents.
When people don't know how to drive, the answer is not to redesign the streets. It's to take their licenses away until they learn how to drive.

First you have to catch them at it, and that means more traffic cops, and that costs too much $$$.
I see mistakes made in roundabouts every single day--many more mistakes than you see at traffic lights and stop signs. Maybe in another half-century everyone in TV will have learned to follow the rules in roundabouts.
