I had the exact same problem; maybe this will help:

I found both wires to the brake light switch under the pedal were worn through where they were wire tied onto the top of the brake pedal shaft. I ran the wires through a piece of stiff rubber tubing, reconnected them and wire tied the tubing to the pedal shaft.
