Many people have tried many different so called remedies. On some dogs pineapple works. My dogs don't eat poop but do love pineapple. They have pills like For-bid you can buy that some say work, some say don't. Some people say they grow out of it. I had a puppy once that did grow out of it. The problem is that all dogs are individual and not everything works on every dog. Cleaning up right away is a great idea as well as teaching your new boy the "leave it" command. Are you feeding a good quality dog food, not a supermarket type dog food? If he's not getting really good nutrition he may be looking for something he is lacking, especially since he is a recent rescue. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Good luck with this issue.
