The fellow from CFLGEEK is absolutely correct. And while your computer my be inoperative, the hard drive may very well be good and all that might be necessary is to remove it from the old machine and put it in another one and all your info is right there. You may think a hard drive is fragile, but not really so, they are a marvel of technology, rugged beyond belief! However, if you want to destroy the data and the drive itself, remove the 5 or more torx screws on the top, then feel for some indentations under the label on the top of the drive, you'll find a couple of indentations, there are two more screws underneath, remove those and the thin strip of tape joining the top cover of the drive and the frame of it, remove the cover, exposing the insides. Absolutely beautiful machining. Now take a large old rusty pair of gas pliers and bend the hell out of the disk. Your data is now history!
