This is from a description of a PetScan:
"PET Scan
The positron emission tomography (PET) scan creates computerized images of chemical changes, such as sugar metabolism, that take place in tissue. Typically, the patient is given an injection of a substance that consists of a combination of a sugar and a small amount of radioactively labeled sugar. The radioactive sugar can help in locating a tumor, because cancer cells take up or absorb sugar more avidly than other tissues in the body."
Time Magazine Vol.183 #11 2014 has an article on new guidelines offered from the World Health Organization on cutting back on sugar. The article goes on to say that the World Health Organization's Director of Nutrition says it is not realistic for the USA to cut back to their suggested use of sugar.
Which I read to say that "they" have decided that we are either too stupid or too addicted to sugar to cut back to a reasonable and healthy amount. Their recommendation is for 5% of ones daily calories to come from sugar; whereas in the USA we consume a full 13% of our caloric intake from sugar.
Compare foods from Europe to foods manufactured here in the USA. You will see an enormous difference in sugar content.
