Now, as I understand it, the law doesn't stipulate that you can't drive over 20 mph. What it says is that a golf cart that is capable of going 20 mph and higher has to be reclassified to a street legal vehicle requiring certain safety equipment, registration and insurance.
A good percentage of electric carts in The Villages have high speed motors capable of going about 22 mph on the flat.
I remember back in the day, gas carts had a governor on them so that even if you were going downhill and floored it, it wouldn't go over a certain speed.
But back to the original post. Has anyone on this forum ever gotten a ticket? Not, "I heard of someone getting one" or "my friend told me he got one". Can anyone state that they have received a ticket?

I received a ticket about a year and a half ago. I was stopped by radar in the same place it was the other day, on Bailey by the pump house near the lake. There were 5 or 6 people pulled over that day. The experience is just as described by others here. I had my cart readjusted so it will only do 20mph and had my cart company give me a letter to that effect. I went to court and one person was turned away for wearing shorts. I was the only one there in a suit. After I pleaded guilty, I was placed on probation. I went to the other end of the courthouse and paid my fine (I wasn't really fined, but I had to pay court costs).
Then I had to go across the street to a gas station to get a money order to pay the fee at the probation office to be taken off probation. As others have stated, I wasn't ticketed for speeding. I was cited for the FELONY of driving an unregistered vehicle. I was really humbled by the experience, because I consider myself a good citizen, yet I knew I was doing wrong. My bad, and I've fixed it so it won't happen again.
