War driving is searching for WiFi signals from a moving vehicle. It is generally associated with hackers. There is also war walking and war biking.
The war part of the term comes from the term war dialing from the movie War Games. In that movie a kid has his computer methodically dialing numbers to find computers at computer game companies. He inadvertently found a military computer.
