Fair enough. That may be a better option. My guess is a reprimand from corporate would have more effect, and MikeV would have no way of knowing if he had any permanent effect on the manager's behavior. And at least corporate would have one notice that he was acting inappropriately and maybe instruct him to remove any write-up from the employee's record.
Maybe MikeV talked to the manager on his way out? If not, he could now do as you suggested and see how the manager takes it.
