In 2005 I was set for a bi-lateral hip replacement because I was bone on bone in both hips. I received the monthly issue of AARP magazine that had an article about an Orthopedic surgeon in Milwaukee who needed surgery for himself. He was a very active guy who liked to horseback ride and pilot his own plane. He had Hip resurfacing instead of Hip replacement which conserves all of the bone that is normally taken out in a replacement. He was so thrilled on how it worked for him that he trained for it and was now performing the surgery on his own patients.
I called his office and asked who performed the surgery on the Doc, (because I want the Doc who operates on other Docs) and I was told it was Dr. Thomas Gross in Columbia SC. I was living on Long Island but I sent my x-rays to him and I got a call from him on a Sunday night and he talked to me for 45 minutes. Needless to say I knew this was the surgeon I wanted. One hip on Mon 2nd Hip on Wed. On a walker Thurs. No PT just some exercises to do at home. Week 1 Walker Week 2 Crutches Week 3 Cane Week 4 pain free for 9 years and counting.
