Since I was born in 1950 I don't have a great memory, but my parents moved to Florida in 1959, so I know right away if it was the 50's.
  • I remember a neighbor would hold hula-hoop contests and she would give away candy bars to the winner, and I won many times.
  • I remember the ice cream man and his truck playing music. My favorite was 'dilly lilly', which was like sherbert in a push-up cup.
  • I remember in the third grade everyone was so excited on the bus one morning that the Baltimore Colts beat the New York Giants in overtime to win the championship.
  • I remember seeing the Orioles play the Indians and Rocky Colavito hit four homers for Cleveland. It was 1959 and my last trip to see the O's for a long time. Although with spring training I did see O's play every March.
  • I remember in rural Baltimore us kids didn't have a park nearby to play. So a neighbor who was a builder, got his tractor and with the permission of the owner, he cleared a big field and we made a baseball diamond and played games.
  • Finally, when I was about six, I remember a neighbor's dog getting loose and I got bit by a German Shepherd and I had to get many rabies shots in the stomach, I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
