What you describe sounds like it may be more easily repaired by other (cheaper or free) methods besides a plumber. If you could isolate the exact area in the wall where it bangs, likely a simple pipe strap to secure it and/or piece of pipe insulation will stop the noise. Yes, you'd have to open up the wall to view and repair but there are some very skilled wallboard guys around.
Easier still, and worth a try first would be to turn off the water to the house, open ALL faucets both hot and cold to let air into the system, re-close them and slowly turn the water back on.
