I don't see how dogs walking around the square during the "farmers market" should be considered a health issue. They're walking on the ground...they're not sneezing, coughing, picking their teeth and/or their noses, and then handling the produce like the humans are. (Have you ever people-watched at the farmers market?).
I agree with others about the heat concerns when it comes to taking pets anywhere...but I have a problem with people complaining about pets showing up where pets have always been allowed!
One of the reasons I moved to The Villages was because of its pet-friendly reputation. I'm very discriminate about where I take my dogs (for their sake). I look out for their well-being, as I'm sure most pet owners in The Villages do.

I have always defended the rights of dogs on this forum. For their sake. I'm against dogs on hot pavement, pooping/peeing in people's yards, and running around loose, dyed pink, riding unrestrained in golf carts.
This is the first place we've ever lived where dogs were allowed in farmers' markets. Mine is tall enough to sniff a peach pie that you couldn't take home and wash. (But he doesn't go to farmers' markets.) If it's legal, fine, but curious that the health department allows it.
