A massive sink-hole opens up, destroying Spanish Springs. In the rubble an underground research and testing facility, owned by the Umbrella Corporation, loses power and hordes of mutated zombies, created by the T-virus, escape and begin to roam through The Villages. The mutated monstrosities are not stopped by the gates or the round-abouts, and in a few days most of the remaining populace have succumbed to the T-virus and become zombies.
The Florida government creates a cover-story, and the outside world remains unaware.
