Bravo! Serving helped put me through college. It was hard work but I loved doing it. A lot less rules back then and a lot less side work.
My daughter is a server today. She is required to do a lot of her side work off the clock. Highly illegal but it is what it is. Whether she gets a ten percent tip or a twenty percent tip, she has to tip out her co-workers at eighteen percent of the amount of the tip calculated by the computer. Because of this, I nearly always give a server an additional dollar. To have to help pay co-workers' salaries is downright obscene and should be illegal.
Folks, be nice to your servers. Their job is hard enough without having to be bullied, demeaned or treated as less than human.
