In just about any social situation, there are three ways to handle situations that make you uncomfortable: embrace it, avoid it, or just gripe about it. Embracing it will open you up to new experiences, some you may or may not end up liking. Avoiding it may ensure you don't have to be exposed to the situation. Griping about it only serves to make other people decide which choice to go with in socializing with you.

I have never eaten at a restaurant where dogs were present, but I would embrace eating a meal on a patio with a dog in the vicinity; I would avoid at all costs eating a meal with a person griping about dogs being allowed on restaurant patios.
