We have 2 "hook poles" with approx. 12" feeder trays on them and attract birds all day long and it's quite a treat to observe them from inside the house. We have a constant stream of doves, blue jays, cardinals, brown striped birds??, and many others. You can buy the pole/feeder tray combo at Lowe's or Home Depot for about $20.
