You need to read your instruction book regarding reprogramming. Some people think that pushing the paper clip into the onwall device and then pressing the remote reprograms. I think all that does is to tell the opener to accept the code from the remote. You have to change the 9 digit( 0,1,Blank) sequence to make the remote code unique and so should your neighbor. Chances are that your remote and your neighbors remote have the same sequence at this time. When we first moved in , My remote opened 4 garages in the neighborhood and mine was being opened even when I was out of town. Thankfully , my neighbors saved the day.
Another good clue is to buy a cheap doorbell pushbutton and wire it to your opener and mount just inside the garage door. When you are leaving the garage on foot, you can reach in and push to close the door , rather than press the code .
