I grew up in Secaucus, NJ. I don't know exactly why but many Catholics in my home town went to the University of Dayton. I hung out with the same 4 guys all through high school. Two of them graduated from Dayton and so did their older and younger sisters. They were very proud of their college.
I remember the first Christmas, freshman year we reunited. We dressed like college students in high school or thought we did; wearing navy blue blazers, grey wool trousers with cuffs and oxblood penny loafers [sans pennies]. At the reunion we all had long hair, bell bottoms and beards.
So much for the "preppy" look in the all boys Catholic High School we attended.
I also remember they told me that when you order a sandwich in Ohio and you ask for it on a roll, no one asks if you want Kaiser or Italian. They said in Ohio they make sandwiches on a hamburger buns and call them rolls. And if you want a soda you have to ask for "pop". We were shocked! Unbelievable!
