He then told me I didn't have any brains at which point I left....greatly resisting the urge to give him the middle digit salute. He was a large fairly ugly man in a greyish minivan.

No one had a right to do and say that to you even if you were at fault, which you weren't. They did not have the right to do that. Another point I want to make is that someone replied that you shouldn't have gone to their car. In TV you should be able to go to a car thinking it is surely someone you know...why wouldn't you think that? Sorry this happened. ridiculous. Probably someone with zero power anywhere else looking to prove something...
