Your credit card can be compromised without it being a place you shopped or dined. People out in cyber space have the means to get the information. Our card was used by someone traveling in Europe. The credit card company immediately noticed there may be something wrong and called us asking if we had made the charge. They explained this happens and they try to catch the problem immediately and address the situation. We were told, more often than not, the credit card compromise is not traced back to a specific establishment or person, but is a breach through the computer and is a human at the end of the computer.
Did the bank specifically say it was an employee of the restaurant?
