The "so called rule" is a matter of etiquette. Just like there is etiquette on the golf course and while visiting someones home. An individual may not wish to observe the customary etiquette. That's up to them. It is then up to others to draw their own conclusions about the person who knowingly and consistently breeches etiquette, just like on the golf course. Life is made up of rules so that we may enjoy some kind of order in society.
