a lot of retailers do not understand the villages. our demographic is not what most want, the population density is not high enough, the average income in the greater villages area (include the rest of sumter, lake, and marion counties) is not high enough, and that is why they are not interested in locating here. i do not understand why the villages development organization does not invite and pay for a visit from the search committees of retailers whose presence would enhance the villages. i understand that it was a big coup to get target here, and a lot of arm-twisting went into having a michael's located here. maybe these tactics have been tried and were unsuccessful.
