You're not supposed to use flexible duct as it traps lint in the folds. However, being that these are not custom-built homes and probably not designed with placement of different dryers in mind I'll bet most people have the flexible duct. I'm sure we probably do. We never have had a dryer vent cleaned until we moved here. Guess we've been lucky. Have fun getting your new "old" home ready.
