That is a scary thing. I use Norton Internet Security. It is a yearly subscription which costs about $75.00 for 3 computers. It is an on-line version so it updates very often with all of the new viruses out there. I have used it for 5 years and believe me I am on the computer all of the time going here and there and have never had any issue. I've never had a virus. It pretty much catches everything. I would say it catches a hack request several times a week. Changing your password is for sure is important.
