They are programmed to return to whence they came. Hence the name pond balls.

I buy my recycled Prov's at Walmart and they work out to $1.50 or so per ball. They are supposed to be AAA grade but occasionally there is on in the box that is only at best a AA.

That said, I have been using Callaway Supersoft balls that are great and I find they perform just about as good as Prov 1's for me.
