I believe the data overwhelmingly favor the "nutritional determinism" argument over the "genetic determinism" argument for many diseases/conditions.
Consider the case of identical twins - they rarely die of the same disease. IF it were due to genes ONLY, they would ALWAYS die of the same disease, where disease caused death (versus accident, etc…)
There are many examples of identical twins from healthy Asian nations where one twin moves to a western country, begins to eat the standard western diet heavy in meat and dairy, and becomes obese and diseased. Meanwhile, the sibling back home remains robustly healthy and free of disease. Obviously, one's nutritional choices have consequences.
