Stay off of airplanes. The plane you may be boarding in Orlando, or New York, or Chicago might have been carrying passengers from Western Africa yesterday.

Stay off of cruise ships. Cruises are notorious for having infections.

Stay out of hospitals, nursing homes, or any medical facility including doctor's offices. Any place where sick people congregate is where germs abide.

Stay away from crowds.

Stay out of public swimming pools. These have more than their share of bodily fluids...enough said.

A little common sense can go a long way.
You are correct: One should take responsibility for oneself. Unfortunately, many have been taught that personal responsibility only applies when it serves to protect the junk food industry.

Death by heart disease: One every 35 seconds

Death by cancer: One every 56 seconds

Every six minutes one American dies in a hospital from a medical error or lethal infection.

Death by traffic accident: One every 12 minutes

Poisoning: One every 27 minutes
