The Sherman’s fox squirrel is a protected, imperiled species that is native to Florida. This fox squirrel can adapt to living in golf courses and neighborhoods when its natural habitat is developed. Please do NOT feed fox squirrels or other wildlife in The Villages. Feeding squirrels may cause them to become dependent on handouts and lose their natural fear of people.
