It is a "gland" so it is made up of glandular cells. These glandular cells produce the fluid component of semen, while the testicular glands produce the sperm cell component of the semen. The seminal vesicles also contribute to this fluid component. The prostate also is composed of connective tissue cells which are present in almost any type of organ. The smooth muscle cells of the prostate help propel the prostatic fluid into the urethra during ejaculation.
