From The Daily Sun 12/20:
Recycling won’t impact trash pickups
By CURT HILLS, DAILY SUN
THE VILLAGES — While work continues to bringing curbside recycling to The Villages, residents can rest assured it will not impact their regular garbage pickup schedules.
Planned curbside recycling will be in addition to the two days per week of solid waste pickup that Villages residents in Marion and Sumter counties receive.
So while the opportunity exists for environmentally conscious residents to reduce the amount of trash they discard, they will continue to have the ability to do so twice a week. Villages officials indicated they have no plans to alter the current garbage-pickup schedules.
The curbside recycling pickup schedule is expected to mirror one of the two regular trash pickup days for each household, making it convenient.
Of course, the biggest convenience may come from how recyclable materials can be placed curbside — all together, without the hassle of sorting. That’s because collections in the affected areas will be processed by use of a single-stream recycling facility, which means the separation of materials will not occur until they reach Waste Management Inc.’s state-of-the-art facility near Orlando.
The Villages has worked with Sumter Sanitation, which is preparing a new transfer station in Wildwood, and Waste Management, since 2005 to get the community geared toward a convenient and inexpensive way to recycle.
Additional details, including recycling pickup days, cost and how to place items curbside will be provided to the public in the near future.
