Only listed the top ten in each category. Plenty more to chose from if you care to look them up.
So, overall, things aren't quite as bad as those with short memories would have us believe.

I am not sure if I understand your post at all !!!!
The original idea of this thread was to discuss the beheading and the lack of media coverage, while most were in Ferguson PREPARING for something to happen. The question then became has the media become so insensitive to this kind of stuff it is not even headline worthy.
Somehow the title of THIS STORY got changed and then posters were told they were off topic which they were not. Thus not sure what your history links means to anything.
I am a history buff, BUT I live NOW....the present. Discussing history is great...I just finished two great books....both historical and I suggest that what I meant in this thread was a bit different.
Throughout history, our press was past tense...something happened and that news was reported to us mostly with facts and very seldom with opinion.
Today in our instant world, it seems to me that the media tries to CREATE news and the beheading....BEHEADING.....not even making headlines and the main story of the day I began this thread was Ferguson says a lot about the media and a lot about the priorities we have in this country.
We enjoy great soap operas, not history or potential history making stories it appears.
I might add that it continues as we "speak"......Ferguson still out guns as far as media space and spacing even the killing of the 4 folks in Jerusalem who were slain while praying. So to bimmert I say...yeah, the world is a sucky place right now, historical references aside.
