Several years ago for one of my birthdays shortly after discovering arthritis in my hips, knees and ankles my loving wife contacted our local private golf course in PA, for a link to find a way to get a signed autograph from Arnold Palmer. He is my favorite golfer of all time.
After many calls and told to call this # and that # she finally got on the phone with this guy who talked for several minutes about his arthritic mother. My wife listened patiently and at the end asked for the tele# he might have to talk with and get the autograph. Only to find out she was talking to Palmer himself. Not believing at first until his daughter came on the phone with them did she believe it.
Now on my birthday he sent me a framed picture with an autograph signed and adding words asking me to keep on golfing. It bought tears to my eyes and still does that someone who never met me and after talking to a stranger, my wife for more than 20 minutes would just send this without asking her for anything other than our address. Plus every year now on or about my birthday he sends me a new signed pic.
One year he asked that if I ever decide to come to his home course outside Orlando to please call the Manager of the resort hotel so we could meet.
Well we met him, his wife Winnie and there 2 lovely Irish setters. What a guy.
