Martin Luther King, in his famous "Letter from the Birmingham Jail," called on all Americans to actively but peacefully oppose laws that were morally wrong.
This does include comparing the death of a policeman with a landscaper.

Do you remember that the FBI (under the direction of J Edgar Hoover) investigated and accused MLK as being a (horrors!) Communist?
As for comparing the death of a policeman to the death of a landscaper - both equal human beings - one is not worth more than the other.
