Our bird cage is large enough to allow a remote type corner where we have our gas grille located (for the last 10 years). It is stainless steel but I keep it covered to protect and preserve against the damaging FL sun and rains.

There is no "greasy " run off of any kind. There is no accumulation of smoke residue an any of the surrounding screen. And have never has any runoff of any kind in previous locations, covered or uncovered.

I suppose it could depend somewhat on the quality of the bbq you are putting in place.

The choice is yours.
