Chelsea 24, who by the way has a lot more experience on TOTV than most of us, tried to be helpful to everyone by posting a warning concerning bad service. For that she is ridiculed for paying in advance. How to pay a service person can be a topic for another thread, but "Sorry to say I have no sympathy for Chelsea 24" and "Seriously.......What were you thinking?" are not, in my opinion proper responses to someone whose only purpose was to pass along helpful information.

:agree: Chelsea 24, thank you for sharing your experience. It's by reading threads like this that TV wannabees and gonnabees get educated about living in TV. I hope somehow you get your money back and/or your cart repaired to your satisfaction.

Chelsea has a ton of common sense. I read that she paid them because the work was done but found out the next day that it wasn't acting right.

She did what we all would do.

What happened is that this guy did NOT stand behind his work. If we had a car fixed and it wasn't running correctly the next day, we would take it back and most reputable mechanics that I have dealt with would certainly correct it. This person didn't return her calls after saying he would be out to fix it. Bad on him.

I am sorry this happened Chels, and I thank you for warning us.

We are going to spend a little extra and buy our cart from the TV dealership on the Colony Plaza. Salesman was really nice, helpful and made us feel really comfortable. But on the other hand, everything that he told us will be on the contract that we sign to buy our cart. All the extras that he talked about will be in writing.

Sorry to hear of your problems and I hope that you get your money back and your cart repaired correctly.

Please keep us informed.

As I read Chelsea24's post, Chelsea24 and company inspected the work while the vendor was on site, discovered a problem with the repairs which the vendor, on the spot, acknowledged. Ryan then stated he would return the next day to correct the unsatisfactory work. To me - JOB NOT COMPLETED YET SO DON'T PAY. Tomorrow, after he returns and makes it right, and they reinspect the repairs and are satisfied with the repairs, then pay the man! I'll bet a dollar to a donut hole that if they had worked it that way, Ryan would have returned the next day to complete the work and collect his money. Any takers on that bet?

Bryan, with all due respect, my husband and I are not a couple of yokels. We paid the man when the job was "finished" or so we thought. But the next day, it was clanking. We called. He answered and said he knew what that probably was and would be out with his tools, the next morning to fix it. HE NEVER SHOWED! Called again. "Sorry, I couldn't make it (lame excuse) will be there for sure tomorrow." NEVER SHOWED. Called again and again and again. NO RETURN PHONE CALLS! The poor people that referred us (not their fault!) tried to call him. NO RETURN PHONE CALLS!

In other words, he dragged it out long enough for it to be too late to stop payment on the check. He would NOT take credit cards and now we know why. My husband owned his own clinic for 35 years and believe me, he's not one to be fooled. So, just to be clear... Ryan was referred to us... we paid him when the job was completed. We have a receipt that says we have a one year warranty!!!! I don't know what else we could have done. Quite frankly, if YOU find a vendor or merchant that lets you use something for a week or so, and then pay them... let me know who they are! They don't exist!

We've lived here almost 4 years and I know that some service people in the surrounding areas look at us "villagers" as doddering, wealthy targets. Example -- we were on a cruise once and I was talking to a very nice lady who proceeded to tell me that her husband is a plumber. They live outside the Villages. She then told me that if we ever call anywhere "outside" the Villages, say for something like a ballpark figure, NOT to say we're from the Villages because it's well known that many service people jack up their prices!!

Of course we know never to pay up front. But this was, supposedly, a finished job. Golf Cart dropped off. We drove it. It was fine. Until the next day. We now have a receipt with a one year warranty that I might as well use in the birdcage. Get it??? Oh, BTW, I'll take that bet. I just made a fresh batch of doughnuts. Get your buck out!

Thanks sincerely to JimT, Gracie and others that actually grasped the problem. Again, I was just trying to help.

If I were you, I would not use him. I'm just sayin'...

Chelsea...I certainly did not get the impression from your original post that this was a completed/finished job and the problem did not occur until the next day. I read that you paid the vendor in advance expecting him to return to finish the job the next day....thats what surprised ME! Of course I would have paid the vendor if the job was completed and all appeared well at the time. Sorry you had the problem.

Always use the Better Business Bureau before hiring anyone. Much fraud and unsatisfactory service going on in the Villages.

Chelsea - I sent you a PM.

Bill :)

IMHO...."Some"..Better Business Bureau offices have become a "SCAM" themselves..There was a "report" on television regarding how "a BUSINESS can BUY a good RATING" from the so called "local" BBB office. One can Google......"Better Business Bureau scams" .

Greer has been around awhile. He caused lots of problems when he used to sell golf carts and golf cart parts (tops, sides, covers, etc.) out of Market of Marion as All American Golf Carts. That's gone now - no idea where but hopefully belly-up. Now Ryan's Mobile Golf Cart Repair has a sterling BBB rating of "F" with numerous complaints on file there. I'll bet Seniors Vs Crime has a file on him also.[/QUOTE

mrfixit,
True.. as you say "some". Good info to know.
But this business has an a F rating with numerous complaints. I don't think many businesses are paying for false F ratings with many individual complaints. I still say check BB and if there is an F rating -stay away.

Thanks Chels, I totally understood your post that you didn't pay for anything up front, but did pay the full amount upon delivery of a "fixed" cart. So glad you posted this because many of the new owners will be aware of this scam before he can hit again.

And, to those who posted negatively and to others new on this forum, please lighten up, Chels was trying to help and didn't need all those dumb responses. Thanks Jim for your post, well done.
