At a minimum your new charger needs to match the voltage of the battery (48v), should be very close to the current capacity (15 amps), and MUST have the correct charging type (lead acid, AGM, etc.). The next possible problem will be if there is communication between the cart and the charger this would be through additional wire(s) on the plug. This would be the case where the cart controls the level and rate of charging. The final (I think) concern would be getting a compatible plug (DC) for the charger to the cart.
I may be able to repair the charger if I can get the correct information and parts.
Most of the newer chargers are intelligent and have the correct settings for multiple battery types and a suitable current rating, so the use of one of these may only need a new plug or socket (or both) to connect to the golf cart. I had a friend with a Polaris golf cart, and we had to install a Yamaha socket for the replacement charger.
Feel free to send me a PM and we can discuss further over the phone.

For further information on charger issues. Having to buy a new early Club car charger is rare. They can be fixed very easily. Same with early ezgo 36 volt chargers.
Dont just figure you need a new charger and buy one. Also, I know the 100 dollar amazon chargers are tempting.....but dont, youll be sorry.

Glad you found the problem, and that you let everyone know what was wrong.
