Get the belts!

Jawskid6044 10-05-2021 07:14 AM

Belts are a must. They don’t get in the way. They retract and you don’t even know you have them.

KYtoTV2021 10-05-2021 07:16 AM

We have one on order - belts include

Our cart is due in 3 weeks. We ordered new and had the seat belts installed. There are some bad drivers in TV. Seat belts could save your life.

You are right. There is no need for seatbelts while on the golf course (well, assuming the driver knows how to deal with hills). But most cart use here is NOT on the golf course, and it is done at relatively high speeds, given the vehicle, and there are a lot of 90° turns. If a cart tips over or there is a collision, seatbelts can be lifesavers. In an accident, one frequent disaster is passengers being thrown from the cart to the ground. Passengers also sometimes fall out when the cart makes a left turn. INSIST on seatbelts, and use them. If you use them in your car, you need them on your cart. They don’t cost much.

Faith over fear. Trust your god given driving skills. Seat Belts are about control.

BigSteph 10-05-2021 07:27 AM

We ordered front and back seatbelts at purchase. When you consider how expensive the cart is, the addition of seatbelts is negligible financially.

We got retractable belts, and sometimes you forget they are there -- no burden having them.

I also installed grab handles in the roof frame. I bought Jeep grab handles (cloth and rubber type) and installed one above the right passenger seat, and one each on the rear seats.

I use the seatbelts and grab handles a lot. The grab handles are great for corners.

Seat belts are as important in golf carts as they are in cars. The #1 reason people are seriously injured and/or killed in golf cart accidents, they are ejected from the cart.

Get the belts

Get the belts. They saved our lives when we were hit on a side street by a Subaru

Bay Kid 10-05-2021 07:32 AM

If you have grandchildren seatbelts are a necessity. Good for resale too.

La lamy 10-05-2021 07:33 AM

I would definitely get them. Retractable ones should not get in the way.

We put them on our new cart. They aren’t in the way when playing golf but give us a basic level of safety when driving about.

Seat Belts

Absolutely get them, I just put them on my older cart, retractable, they are definitely not in the way. Too many accidents where people fall out of the cart because of no seatbelts!

ABSOLUTELY put in seat belts. They saved the lives of a couple i know - or at least very serious injury. Of all the reports I’ve read about golf cart deaths, NONE were wearing seatbelts belts. They don’t get in the way of playing golf ever.

ldj1938 10-05-2021 08:07 AM

I've personally since two women thrown out of carts because hubby made a quick left turn. Head hitting the pavement. My wife, an RN, ran to help. Saw a guy fall out of his cart when he had a seizure and hit his head on the curb. Air evac. Saw a woman killed when she lost control of her pickup and fell out and the the truck backed over and killed her. Baby in car seat was fine. Don't be stupid wear a seat belt. People driving at night with no lights? Yes! Wrong side of the road? Yes. Welcome to our world.

jimkerr 10-05-2021 08:32 AM

I recommend getting them. I have them on my cart and they do not get in the way at all.

Dr Winston O Boogie jr 10-05-2021 08:37 AM

Most deaths resulting from golf cart accidents are due to the riders being ejected from the cart and their head impacting the pavement.

I had retractable seatbelts in my last cart and have them in the cart that I have on order. I currently have a loaner that doesn't have them and I'm uncomfortable without them.

The idea that they would get in the way on the golf course has no merit. They are an inexpensive possibly life saving feature.

In my opinion, you should definitely get the seat belts. They don't get in the way at all and you don't use them on the golf course. Most of the serious injuries or fatalities involving golf carts are from people being thrown from them. It happens a lot believe it or not. The person who made comparison to bicycles is not taking into consideration the numbers of golf carts compared to bicycles and the close proximity and speeds at which they operate. Get the seat belts!!

It’s a no-brainer get the seatbelts! There have been countless people thrown from their carts. Don’t skimp on safety!

Spsmith444 10-05-2021 09:21 AM

Yes, yes, yes.

bobnyce 10-05-2021 09:41 AM

Best investment ever but no good if you don't use them! Keep you safer inside the cart then thrown out and hurt or hit by a car or another cart. No brainer!

Seriously? What happened to your god helping those who help themselves?

If you were joking, then you should have added a “lol” or something to indicate so.

To me seat belts are just like seat belts in a car, safety. Seat belts to me are to protect you from other drivers, not your bad driving. I look at it as I wear them in a car because I’m a good driver & I’m trying to protect myself from them. I think of of it as they’re the bad driver, & cars go 5 times faster. So I agree with your husband! My cart was always set for the legal speed limit for cart paths. I always stop dead still at stop signs before continuing. I use my turn signals, always & turn them off after I turn. Yes seat belts do save lives but I see more people who forget to turn their turn signals off after making their turn. To me that’s just as bad or worse than having seat belts. Just my opinion!

I hope you decide to avoid the possibility of spending time in the hospital in excruciating pain and spend the extra $200 and buy the seatbelts. There are people out there who do not know to exit the path when chatting, texting or using the phone. Don’t be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Don’t blame the carts that were stopped in the path. It was YOU who were not diligent in stopping in time to avoid an accident. Probably going way too fast and daydreaming. A cart could be stalled or a person could have fallen down in your path. YOU have to always be prepared to stop safely.

Ruggiero56 10-05-2021 01:45 PM

Yes to belts on golf carts! We have the retractable ones and use them all the time - except on the golf course. They are never in the way because the belt is retractable. We feel much safer when we have our belts on. Highly recommend.

shirleyjerez 10-05-2021 02:30 PM

You must get them. You have no idea how many people get killed in golf carts just in the Villages. They don’t get in the way. Do your car belts get in the way? No these won’t either.

Babubhat 10-05-2021 05:54 PM

If you have a new cart put them on. One of us likes them the the other doesn’t.

frose 10-05-2021 06:19 PM

get them and use them.. golf cart accidents are not pretty especially the way the drive here,

LinVilGrl 10-05-2021 06:47 PM

Definitely get the retractable seat belts. I've read many reports of people getting hurt or killed from hitting their head when they fell from or were ejected from a golf cart. Golf carts can be unstable & easily tip over, depending on speed & driving conditions.

billsr 10-05-2021 07:16 PM

I was in a golf cart on Canal Street and was hit by a car. The cart flipped over and slid for 10-15 feet. I survived with some heavy road rash and other injuries. The LEO investigator said the seat belt probably saved my life. I can also answer those who say you can always jump clear. It happens too fast to react and when it flips over on the driver's side there is no way you could simply jump out the passenger side. Wearing a retractable seat belt in a golf cart is a small inconvenience that saved my life. Don't listen to anybody unless they have been in an accident and can speak from experience. BTW the auto only bumped me into the curb. It does not take much to become a serious situation.

Red Rose 10-06-2021 10:50 AM

Definitely install seatbelts.

stenteach 10-06-2021 01:28 PM

Yes, ask those who have fell out of their golf carts or their guests.

Stop at the police station or call and they will give you the statistics on accidents with or without. Safety first...convenience second.
Others don't drive as safe as you.

dewilson58 10-06-2021 05:15 PM

Belt them.

Oh, I thought you were talking about raising kids.

Never mind.

Villages Kahuna 10-08-2021 10:10 PM

I wouldn’t have a cart without belts. If you get hit by a car , another cart, or just run over a curb—you’re going to be thrown out of the cart!

My son was visiting last year and as we were crossing the service road at the light in front of Colony Cottage Rec Center, an elderly gentleman in another cart not paying attention turned right into us and t-boned our cart. He tipped our cart on about a 45-degree angle, almost flipping it completely over. My son and I would both have been thrown out of the cart had we not been belted in. Flying thru the air to land on the road without injury or worse? Not a chance.

You won’t live down here for very long without seeing similar accidents or cart and car drivers who should have caused an accident. No seat belts? You’re taking your life in your hands.

cwilson132 01-04-2022 08:39 AM

Anyone had seatbelts installed on an older golf cart?

If yes, who/where did you get them installed. I have an old golf cart so The Villages Golf Cart will not.

No seat belts on my bicycle either though similar speed and less protection.

I will probably order them on my next cart and might add them to this one. Nice to have them available if I ever decide I want to use them.

You can get clip on shoes and pedals for your bike - then where it goes, you go!

davem4616 01-04-2022 08:59 AM

get the belts....it's like a membership at the gym, it's there in case you ever decide to use it
