Default Beware of golf cart maintenance charges

Warning, be sure you are getting what you pay for! True story, had our 2016 golf cart serviced at a local golf shop. Paid for level 3 service every year since we’ve had it. The cart started making weird noises and wasn’t running properly, about 3 months after service, I looked under the seat and couldn’t believe what I saw! The starter/generator motor ready to fall off, only one bolt was holding it on. How can you replace the drive belt and generator belt and not notice this? I suggest marking your old belts and have them placed on the floor of your cart, along with the old air filter, spark plug and anything else you pay to have replaced. They also charged $108 for a seat belt that was already there. You wouldn’t expect this from a reputable business! Beware!

Which is why I do my own routine maintenance. It's not hard.

It seems like contractors are like vultures around the Villages, they think we are all rich, shop around, get multiple estimates. I got 3 estimates for removing an ornamental tree one was $ 750 another was $300 and the third was $160. I went with the 3rd.

Some companies’ attitude seems to become different when they find out you are a Villager. It is like you have this on your shirt:

The Villagers arent special. Theres contractors all over ready to scam anyone. You dont have to be rich and I dont think people actually think that of us anyway. Plus, you get what you pay for....I would take a mid quote, never the lowest

Yes, always get 3 estimates. Get details of the work to be performed and always compare Apples to Apples.

I wanted to thin out a large live oak in my back yard, got 3 estimates first one was 1400, second one was 690, third one was 275, I went with the third one very happy with the work and clean up performed.
Golf cart i needed to get brakes on my front wheels (yes I have disk brakes on the front and drums in the back) I asked 3 people to give me a price, I saved $200 by getting 3 people to give prices. Here get bids from bonafide providers, otherwise you will overpay

There are a lot of reputable, experienced, affordable golf cart repair providers that will either come to your house or pick up your cart for service. I’ve used one who specializes in my brand of cart for several years. You have lots of alternatives to using the Developer-owned Villages Golf Cart stores for the service of your cart.

As a retired General Contactor, I would never accept the low bid particularly for tree removal. More than likely the lowest bid does not a Carry Workers Comp and Liability insurance which could cost you significantly more if an injury occurs. This insurance is very expensive. Always ask for a certificate of insurance and check with the agency to make sure the policy is valid.

Agree…had our ‘bug’ man come inside and spray. He mentioned something about our house being worth $1,000,000. I almost laughed out loud. It’s a mid-priced designer home. No concept of what’s real here for most folks. That’s why…
