Default Golf Cart Insurance Went Up!!!

I just reviewed our new bill from Foremost for our Golf Cart Insurance. Last year we paid $54 today they want $90. Has anyone else noticed an increase?

Try Progressive, ours has been stable for 3 years, have not gotten the renewal yet, due shortly.

My annual golf cart premium does not come due until July. I paid $151 for two Yamaha gas carts last July. One is a 2013 and the other 2006. The age and type of cart would affect the premium. The insurance company was Foremost. Golf cart insurance has been relatively cheap but serious accidents could soon drive up the cost.

We have full coverage for our carts from Allstate. We have a 2012 Par Car and a 2014 Yamaha, paying $130 a year for both. Our policy was renewed in December, 2017 and dropped $5 from last year.

I heard in another post their golf cart insurance was as high as their car insurance. Does that cover your golf cart driving anywhere in the villages?

I remember that post, it was for a street legal cart. Not the same insurance by a long shot.

So please tell me what the difference is between street legal insurance and the cheap insurance others are talking about? Where can you drive with the cheap insurance and where can you drive with higher premium insurance? Trying to get a better understanding of the laws down here.....

Street Legal allows you to drive on any street that is 35 mph or less. You can drive down Buena Vista or Morse (not sure why any sane person would in a golf cart, but legally you can). The cart speed is set at 25 mph vs 19.9 mph. They can also drive on the multi model trails and golf courses. A street legal cart must have seat belts, windshield wipers, lights, safety glass windshield and loud horn. So cart and insurance is more like a car. It is classified as a LSV (low speed vehicle)

A non street legal cart can drive on any of the in Village streets, (not main streets where speed is 35) all multi model trails and golf courses. Carts speed is set at 19.9 mph. Most have lights and horn but not some of the other things

Default Ins.

If you have The Villages Insurance with Foremost call them and they will switch you over to Progressive. In my opinion they should be calling us before the renewal but they wont you have to call them.

Foremost rates went up recently from what I was told because their policies now cover renters using owners golf carts. Whether that is automatic with all of their policies, that I do not know. Your agent can answer those questions.

I seen lot of street legal carts, they look no different than my decked out Yamaha. Don't ever recall windshield wipers?

Maybe the insurance going up from all the idiots crashing or getting hit to cover law suits?
