If you increase your tire size, just remember that when you go up a hill (like the bridge over to the historic side) your speed will decrease substantially till you get to the top. Then you'll ride the downside like a rollercoaster.

Think about it!

Other than worrying about being slower (and legal) what real benefit in travel time at 18-20 can be gained?
Almost none!

Concentrate on the road ahead....not who is in the rear view mirror.

Fake News. Speeding in a golf cart on a road in a golf cart lane in Sumter is just under $360.00 and a day in court.

Default Insurance

Be careful. If you modify your cart using the means you’ve discovered, you will void your golf cart insurance. The greater risk is that you modify your cart and then get into an accident where people are injured or killed. Your liability insurance on both a golf cart or homeowners insurance will be voided. Those policies stand between you and multi-million lawsuits by those injured or killed. That’s not a situation you’d want to cause for yourself.

Just wanted to verify what Serge stated. Was in insurance claims for over 20 years...if the golf cart has the capability to exceed 20 MPH your recreation cart policy will not cover any claims even if you were going less than 20 at the time of the accident. Most rec policies will state coverage will not apply if the "......recreation vehicle would be SUBJECT to registration as a motor vehicle...etc..". So those who exceed 20 MPH are in reality driving with no insurance coverage. So suggest.....reading your recreation vehicle insuring form,
and/or HO policy, whichever applies.

Just don’t give me dirty looks as you speed by me. My cart will go 17-18 and that’s just fine.

You can upgrade the controller and upgrade the motor. Or, you can have someone install a high speed gear, or all the above. Larger tires will get you a faster top end but it will accelerate slower to get there. Upgrading the controller will also give you more toque and give you more speed on the ramps in the tunnels. Replace all your battery cables with thicker cables, such as welding cable. You can purchase them on line by brand of golf cart, already sized. If you go on Youtube, you will see a guy with an electric golf cart that ran over a 110mph at the drag strip.

What’s your hurry? Your retired. Got two carts both go 20mph, I still get there.

Very good point and true. Drive a cart with speed settings that have been adjusted to allow 20 mph+ and not only are you subject to a speeding ticket but if you get in an accident the driver of the modified cart is liable and the speed setting is reviewed. If personal injury from the accident occurs … uh oh. And the above is the protocol whether the driver (or any of us) agrees with the 20 mph limit, or not. It is what it is.

We had the same problem. Had Masters Golf Car on 441 install a new controller. Cost about $800, increased speed to around 24 mph and more importantly, can climb the hills at around 20. Well worth it.

Boilerman...Thank you for the recommendation. Leo from Masters Golf Cars picked up my cart this afternoon. I'm optimistic they can have my cart going at least 22. I'll post an update when I get my cart back.
