Default Yamaha issues major recall

Yamaha has issued a recall for 161,000 units to be brought in for repair. The hazard is that the brake cables on the golf carts can fail, posing a crash hazard.

From the other site
"Yamaha has issued a recall for 161,000 units to be brought in for repair. The hazard is that the brake cables on the golf carts can fail, posing a crash hazard.

The recall includes model years 2015 through 2018 gas and electric-powered golf carts, personal transportation vehicles and utility vehicles.

There have been 285 reports of brake cables failing. No injuries have been reported.

Yamaha suggests consumers should immediately stop using these recalled golf carts
and PTVs and contact a local Yamaha golf cart dealer to schedule a free repair. "

Given the dearth of drivers here who seem to never use their brakes...it shouldn't be a big deal.

Well, That's great. Think of all the golf carts here in the villages that can go faster than the brakes were designed to begin with. Oh boy.

There have been apparently 285 reported instances of a brake cable issue out of 161,000 golf carts. It is not as if this is a common problem. The repair shop at The Villages Golf Cart Store will get busy and I suspect they will be giving out a lot of loaners.

Going to be like Takata air bag recall. Where are they going to come up with 161,000 new brake cables ASAP but do not use your golf cart in the interim. OK loan me a cart while I wait - fat chance. Liability issue settled. Whatever happened to consumer protection laws ?

What does The Villages Golf Shop have to do with this?

Excuse me, The Villages Golf Cart Store. I am pretty sure you knew what I meant.

OK, a couple of points. I would not equate an airbag with a cable - a cable is much less complicated to manufacture. Secondly, it is possible that a new cable is not required - perhaps there is only a repair to the existing cable. Regardless, the sky is not falling.

Has anyone taken their cart in for service to check on the procedures to have the repair done.

Gordon's Garage at LSL will have a brake inspection day on Wednesday, March 14, from 8 AM to 2 PM.
I hope they provide for the customers that will be lined up.
I recently tried to make an appointment for another issue, and was given a date of April 26!

Carts and Clubs is reaching out to their customers. The Villages Golf Cars is not.
