Default 10/27/2018 National Pit Bull Awareness Day.

NATIONAL PIT BULL AWARENESS DAY - October 27, 2018 | National Today

I have met many pit bull mixes which are quite sweet. A few that were kind of nasty, but most of the pit bull mixes I have come across are/were good dogs.

Even went to Max's Pet Connection last year in Lady Lake to help my sister-in-law adopt a dog and she chose the first big dog when we came in the door which was a pit bull mix. Her extended family often adopt pit bull mixes.

On the news last night I saw a Pit Bull, a beautiful dog, being taken away for biting an older Pizza delivery man in the face. The Pit Bull had bitten another dog last year. I don't know any Pit Bull dogs or know of anyone who owns one but I was in PetSmart recently and there was a Pit Bull there and I didn't try to pet her or him.

It would be difficult for me to know which pit bull was sweet and which one had a “hair trigger”, and what would set it off. Since they were bred to bite and hang on, I avoid them entirely.

You can usually tell about a pit bull or a mix if you watch it carefully with other dogs and also with its owner.

Its interaction with other dogs is often a very good tell. My chihuahua mix used to chase a very meek pit bull mix around the dog park.

I do avoid pit bull mixes when out walking my dog or in Pet Smart or Pet Co as I do not know how they are going to act.

But I also avoid various small breed dogs as well. I have met a lot of rather nasty chihuahua/terrier mixes and some sweet ones.

And a pit bull mix might become mean if the owner does not know what he or she is doing with training and disciplining the pooch.

Here is Judge Judy's take on pit bulls: Carl Smith - Ducks are dangerous too...

Sorry but I would not own a pit bull they are just too unpredictable. Recently read a story about a pit bull mauling a two year old child. The family said it never showed any aggressive behavior. I wish ur sister well
