We live in a CYV and I rarely hear any of the dogs barking. Ours bark when someone comes to the door and maybe a woof when they want to come in. We do not let them bark when they are outside. They know the difference between barking to let mom and pop know someone is coming and just barking to run off their mouths. I have found everyones dog to do just about the same.

The potential for barking dogs is situational. Our lot backs up to a CYV wall and the people immediately over the wall have two dogs that bark when they're in the lanai or out in their yard. It's not that big a deal to us as we're not in TV all that much. If we lived in our home full-time, it might be more of an issue.

Even if everything with your neighbors and barking dogs is fine today, things can always change over time - people come and go as do pets. Buy what you like where you like it and go with the flow! :D

We're building a ramp so our dog can get over the wall from our Begonia and poop in the CYV behind us. while barking.

With any luck, you dog can steal some food off your neighbor's BBQ and bring it home!

Some days you just cannot get back to sleep. Today 'our' CYV dogs were barking at 5:25 AM. The duration was only about 10 seconds, but it is 5:25 AM on Sunday!!!

I am so glad for them that they have a CYV so they did not have to go out to control their dogs and get their slippers wet.

PS. I know nothing gets resolved by posting here, but I felt like griping and where else but TOTV. You never know, maybe people that own two dogs that live in a CYV in Mallory are on TOTV :sigh:

For those families owning dogs, other dogs barking would be a non-event. For those of us not owning dogs and/or not having much affection toward critters it can be a nerve rattling event even if for a short duration. Collectively, I hear barking dogs all over The Villages. I guess it could be worse with some people having affection for elephants. Now that would transend any other poop stories:wave:

I hear your pain i am sitting on my deck up north and have listen to the dog 90 feet away bark from 5:05 this morning until now, and for the rest of the day he hates to be outside and alone, Yep they are home and could care less even animal control has given up. Can't wait to sell this home become a frog and listen to the few minutes of barking.:rant-rave:

You can send a note to your neighbor like this.

“Jane, I’m worried about Atlas. I don’t think that you’re aware that he barks his heart out while you’re away.” Or “Atlas wakes us up every morning like an alarm clock. But on weekends we’d like to be able to sleep later. Is there anything you can do to keep him quieter? We’d really appreciate it.” If this doesn’t help, see if your other neighbors are also bothered, and if so, send a note from the group. A complaint from more than one person may persuade the owner to rectify the problem.

Your last resort is the police. Many communities have an ordinance about nuisance barking, which is sometimes classified as a misdemeanor.

Sumter County Code 4-7 - To allow your dog to bark excessively and continuously is in violation of ordinance.

When they are notified of a violation they will dispatch an Animal Control Officer to issue a verbal warning.

I find those people on the golf course hitting balls too close to the house ruining my view and privacy...I find those cars going around the circles in the wrong lanes at the wrong times annoying, I find the people in the parking lots driving with no regard to anyone else...in fact a man couldn't wait to park yesterday and came within 4 inches of me, not my car but me, as I tried to get in my car...and he laughed...if you look for it, you will find lots of things to be annoying but isn't it better to spend your time embracing what you enjoy instead of constantly picking on these very insignificant things that, when you are on your last day, you won't even think about? Lighten up folks. It is a nicer life here and presumably that is whey we all came. Not perfect...but definitely nicer.

Barking dogs are an insignificant annoyance?:faint: One of the things I love about my home in TV is the peace and quiet I enjoy. A barking dog is a dog in distress and I for one would feel his/her pain. When people have a dog and ignore them or worse refuse to train their dog they infringe on their neighbors P&Q.
We have neighbors behind us with two dogs and I have never been disturbed by them; when I finish this note I'll say a prayer in thanksgiving.:bowdown

Man, we were just getting a little excited to begin our search in TV and a CYV. Reading these postings about dogs may be a blessing before we come down for our visit in August. It most definitely changes our views on a CYV as we are not fans of our one or two neighbors barking dogs. Can't imagine what it's like throughout these neighborhoods.

I am wondering....is there or perhaps is there a need for a non-pet neighborhood? I don't know, just a thought and please ~ no offence to owners of pets. We do understand your love for pets, but you know, there are others like us.

You know, it's like anything else, if you look for problems you'll find them. Reading this board you'd think this place sounds like a kennel-not so. Nothing fires up these boards like a good manure thread-LOL, but if there are one or two dogs at your present home that annoy you, you'll find them here too.

I don't know if you've spent any time here in TV, the houses are very close, privacy is kind of limited. Sometimes it's not easy to respect your neighbors and mind your own business. Sometimes you have to remind yourself that they have as much a right to enjoy themselves as you do.

We all have things that annoy us, I personally can't tolerate children that chirp like dolphins, so guess what, I don't go to Walmart. If dogs are your deal breaker, there are many places that don't allow them-a friend of mine just got a gorgeous condo in South Florida that doesn't allow them, it works for her.

Truth is...the dogs in The Villages are over-indulged, we love them like our children (sometimes more-LOL), they are everywhere...the town squares, restaurants and walking down your street-not restricted to a CYV. Truth is... the people here are very into rescue dogs, they find room in their lives, hearts and homes for the unloved. Truth is, if you find this unacceptable this might not be the place for you.
