That stupid video is still eating at my conscious though. I really want to get a dog. It is a major decision for us and I am highly allergic to dog dander.

I want a cute little puppy to raise from the time it is weened. I know that is really selfish. I have looked at a zillion sites to adopt various hypoallergenic dogs and really haven't found anything.

I have studied and studied and debated and I had really made up my mind to get a Havanese. And then I had to watch that stupid video. So today I've been researching Havanese rescues.

BK,

So what is the problem?

I think that is a wonderful idea!!! Just do it! You wont be sorry. You will be rescuing an unwanted pup and Im pretty sure they are one of the least allergic breeds of dogs.

Friends of ours in The Villages have a Havanese and she is the sweetest, cutest dog, a ray of sunshine to light up your life!

BK, your decision to rescue a dog is FANTASTIC!! Yes, a Havanese is among the list of dogs for those who suffer from allergies. I know you've been doing a lot of research and you will make the right decision. You will find a Havie puppy that needs a home from a rescue organization.

I've experienced both puppies and older dogs -- dogs I've raised from puppyhood, and adult dog rescues. The biggest difference between them from my experience is: those raised from a puppy KNOW they are loveable and EXPECT everyone to love them; they are calm and secure. The adult dogs who were rescues aren't so sure they are loveable and are a bit insecure. So, when they finally believe that YOU love them, they are very grateful and become especially loyal and affectionate.

There is nothing selfish about wanting a puppy. They are just a lot more work than adopting a more mature dog. And, depending on your age, the dog may need to find another home if they outlast you, and then they become the dog that must be rescued by someone else.

Go find your dog -- the love of your life -- your best companion yet! I am beyond happy for you.

K-9, great video, thank you so much for sharing. Loved it.

BK, we rescued a Portugese Water Dog (one of the few larger breeds that doesn't shed). We're her fourth home, and she'll be with us forever. It took her a few months before she realized that we were intending to keep her.

I've had puppies and I've had rescues. And I've loved them all equally. But you know what? With a rescue, you get to know that you've done a really, really good deed.

I have a Bishon Friese who is hypo allergenic, sweet and a very easy going sweetie. I adopted her through petfinder.com.
(about once every other month and then it was just one bark,) my Gracie
Havanese are nice also.

Good for you Salybow, Gracie is a lucky puppy.

There are so many beautiful non-allergenic puppies waiting to be adopted.
