Default Bonita Dog Park Observations "What Rules"

Recently noticed that there's been some family/friends visiting the dog park located at Bonita & Buena Vista behind the fire dept. A small child was observed running in the yard with no shoes on the large dog side.

Small dog side has a person that parks in front of the entrance gate. Individual was advised to park where the signage directs all to park. Couldn't read the rules because the cart blocked the billboard. Personally witnessed same cart parked here 3 times. Individual didn't appear to be handicapped nor have any sticker on cart.

When I attended the RDOG 2 meetings prior to the park opening one major topic of conversation was the need for stewards. I even noticed a few couples signed up. We frequent the new park several times a week (small side) and have never seen any stewards. In going to other dog parks we have learned there should be no treats, personal toys and the leashes should be taken off and put back on prior to entering/leaving the 2nd gate. In other words one should not have their dog on a leash inside the park. In this new park owners seem to do what they wish. Don't get me wrong, we are so grateful we have this dog park, but we do wish some common sense rules would be enforced.

If people don't, the dog park will go the way of the buffalo. I guess I fail to understand why people think rules are for everyone else and not them.

Kind of like the cart speed issue, fixing ball marks, raking traps, etc.?

If you are going to use the park why wouldn't you sign up to be a steward?
Or just complain about the lack of rule enforcement.

It is behind the fire department and Village District Office on Bonita just off Buena Vista. Plenty of parking but you have to look to find the park. There are signs.

I agree with Bogie, if you appreciate the park, then make sure you sign up to help the park retain its purpose.

Does the Paradise dog park have stewarts? I don't use it but drive by it nearly daily and it seems so calm and orderly.

While visiting TV during the month of June, I drove by the Bonita dog park numerous times and never saw anyone there. We will be moving there in August and look forward to taking our small dog to the park. Is there a time when there is more activity? We'd love for our dog to have some play companions.

Casita,

The park is busy early in the morning and from about 6:60 or 7 on in the evenings - when it is cool enough for the doggies to play. The small dog side can have a dozen dogs there at that time.

Thanks. I was hoping that might be the case. We hope to meet some other small dogs that might be available for reciprocal visiting. Our little guy doesn't like to be left alone. Where we live now, we have a neighbor with a small dog. He (the dog) comes over and hangs out with our dog, if we are going to be gone for a while. It has worked out great. We will be in Sabal Chase, so if anyone close-by wants to get together and see if we can help each other out, that would be great. I'll post again about this when we actually get moved in.

Default Emergency vehicle exhaust

Took my dog to Brinson-Perry Park today and had to leave within minutes.
Fire Department is running vehicles with exhaust blowing into the park.
Park is woefully inadequate and poorly located. Needs to be relocated!
