Baby is now being fostered by me in The Villages, and her personality remains flawless, loving, and loves people, other animals and humans. I continue to pray that she will soon be noticed by a caring, loving family who would love this sweetheart to share their comfortable home and heart. Hugs to all, Sandi

SUPER NEWS!!!!!! I believe that a loving family has found Baby to be exactly what they have wanted. A couple with small child, and a sweet labrador retriever who live in a home with a large, fenced in yard. I will be bringing Baby to this family on Monday and, if compatible, with other dog, the adoption will be finalized. Prayers for Baby -

Hope it works out and Baby has her new furever home.

The prospective adopter was at Pet Smart last Friday and was drawn to Baby because of her gentleness and calm demeanor. I made a home visit to the possible future home for Baby today. Once again Baby demonstrated her beautiful manners when she met two cats in the home that rubbed all over her and she stood still and wasn't phased in least. Their one year old child patted and fell all over Baby and she remained docile and sweet. However, their dog was a bit excitable, and agressive and Baby stood beside me and growled which was totally out of character for her. I believe she was protecting me. We have postponed the adoption until next Saturday when there will be someone in the home for a few days just to observe her interaction with all involved. Honestly, I am very fussy where I place this very special animal and given time to think about all this, I might deny the adoption. I do not care for uprooting Baby and placing her in a home for a TRIAL RUN. So, continue to pray and maybe the Lord will open other doors.

Interesting and it might still work but so glad you are being cautious too. What about if the two dogs met in a non-territorial venue like Doo Run Run which is a wide open space? After that meeting, maybe try the home visit again. Prior to adopting our dog another couple wanted her; they introduced the two dogs in the respective home and it was a no go, growling, etc.. However, in a non-territorial area she was fine!

Caution best part of valor. I denied the adoption and feel right about the decision. Sooooo, Baby is once again, available for the right household. I think honestly that she would make an older couple very happy because of her gentleness and loving ways that she often demonstrates with me, i.e. welcomes me at the door with no jumping but much tail wagging and bumping my legs to be petted and she is a low energy dog, etc. etc.:thumbup:

Sandi, my Emma just doesn't like some other dogs. You saw that she and Baby wanted to play, right off. When you have a very well balanced dog, I think they sense when another animal is aggressive or dominant or fearful.

I've seen them work through that, but not always.
Good call.
Kitty

Sandi, I thank and admire you for doing what is right for Baby. Already have my limit, but if not I sure would love to take her in.

Nice to know that People like yourself care and understand the reason for dog rescue - they are voiceless and soooo deserve an advocate to protect and provide!

Baby is still the apple of my eye and has not yet been offered an acceptable forever home but I know it will happen. Yes, Baby would be interested in a playgroup - where do you meet?

kittygilchrist 07-28-2013 09:37 PM

pm me. it's gotta be arranged privately. We could meet at my house.
2961 Amherst way.

A question... doesn't the treatment for heartworm involve total rest so the heart doesn't get overtaxed in its weakened state caused by the worms?

I have heard stories of dogs having to be crated for many months to keep them from overexerting themselves during the recovery period.

I could be wrong. Just wondering.

Depends on the age, condition and stage of the infestation. Baby's vet opted to use "slow kill" method of treatment because she is only mildly infected; that is, some prednisone, along with ivermectin/pyrantel pamoate (once a month) for the rest of her life. Baby has never manifested any signs of heartworm disease.

Baby continues to live with me: however, I am moving back to N.E. the end of this month and I am praying that maybe that very special person will find a spot in their heart and home before that time arrives to adopt her. If anyone wishes to see her or visit her at my home, please call 352 633-3169. Thank you so much for continuing to be interested.

I am totally in love with her and cannot abide the thought of separating from her. I have sold my home in TV and am returning to New England to care for my sister who is very ill. Fortunately, a friend of mine has offered to care for Baby in TV until I have time to purchase a home and get settled in N.E. and then transport will be arranged for her to catch up to me. Whew, it truly has been journey but oh what a blessing! Thank you all for your support and interest. Goodbye.:spoken:

Wow, that is a great ending to this story. You and Babe were meant to be together - how lucky Babe is to have her forever mom now. Special thanks to you for all the other doggie fosters and hard work you have put into finding forever homes for so many pups - Dog Bless You.
