Default Cat care

Just had to let fellow cat owners know about a great product for cats that shed a lot - it's called The FURminator. We've been brushing our 2 cats for years, and thought we were getting to the root of the problem each time. However, this new comb removed more hair in one brushing than we've seen all year using any other traditional pet comb or brush. And the cats look great! I thought it was a little expensive at almost $40 (which included a cleaner spray as well), but was amazed by the results. I'm sure it will reduce our need to vacuum, which is worth $40 to me. We got it locally at the pet store on CR 101, Paws for a Moment.

Do you know if there is a website so I can order one from Canada? Sounds well worth the money! Would probably help with hairballs also.

I saw it at our local Petsmart but was deterred by the price. (I am such a tightwad) I will go back and get it. Our longhair won't allow brushing and I think he would have a nervous breakdown if we took him to be groomed. :dontknow:The other shorthair guys love to be brushed.

Trav, I found a furminator website, they sell a few tools. Is the one you've mentioned blue?

Barefoot -
Yes the one we purchased is blue with a black handle. Funny, we were just commenting on how our 19 lb cat looks 5 pounds slimmer since we Furminated him! Well worth the money. If you can't get one in Canada pm me ~

Yay!! I found a local store here in Canada that carries Furminators!! I'm on my way to get one! My Himalyan cat is in for a treat, she loves to be groomed.

Thanks, Trav, for the tip.

BTW, the store said they also carry Furbusters (which I guess is a knock off of a Furminator at half the price). The store manager says the Furbuster works even better than the Furminator.

I assume the furminator for dogs works basically the same way.I have an old hound dog whose worst habit is constant shedding. I always tell her what a good girl she is(shes the best!) and hubs corrects me by saying " no shes not, shes always shedding". Poor dog, Its not her fault!

So if someone could report back after they have used the furminator and let me know how it worked, beforeI invest in one, I would be eternally grateful. Thankyou. ;D

oh, and by the way, Clara here to your left, has NO bad habits, and she doesnt shed!

I find a great web site today called www.petplace.com. They have very interesting articles about cats and you can sign up for their newsletters.

Kathie. Where have you been? I read where you felt you needed a breather and I want you to know that I hope that I was not the cause. Sometimes my mouth proceeds without my brain. I have missed you.

I have one and they do a decent job BUT, and this is a big BUT, don't use it indoors. It creates a mess. When I use it on my cats, fur flys all over the place because it just takes off a thin layer. You have to brush or comb your cat after using the Furminator to remove any excess hair.

Would I buy it again, probably not because it makes too much of a mess. Plus, my cats don't stay still long enough for me to do a good job. My guess from all the squirming is it irritates them. I can use a brush or comb with no problem but they won't stay still when I use the Furminator!
